Pontiac Body Kits

answer please, who would win this race 1988 camaro against a 2005 pontiac sunfire?

I am due to race a kid with a pontiac sunfire with 2.2l ecotec, what gm puts in the cobalts. it runs 168 hp unrestricted. and 140 hp with stock piping. My 1988 Chevy Camaro has a 305 throttle body injected motor, automatic transmission with a shift kit and an aftermarket cherry bomb glass pack but thats about it. the old chevy has a verrrrry slight miss because of timing. who do you think will win the most intellegent and correct answer with stats will win the 10 points Im trying to learn a bit about racing

  1. Depends. The smaller engine Sunfire might take you in the quarter mile. THat V8 305 will overtake in a longer run. Good luck, you might just take him.
  2. i would say the Chevy camaro i use to have a camaro but not for racing and i loved that car i think they are the best and most awesome looking cars on the road GOOD LUCK TO YOU
  3. I DONT CARE IF YOUR DRIVING A SUNFIRE OR A CAMARO, IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO RACE YOU WILL LOOSE. IF BOATH DRIVERS HAD THE SAME AMOUNT OF EXPERIENCE RACING THEN I WOULD PUT MY BETS ON THE CAMARO, AND IF THE CAMARO HAD MORE EXPERIENCE THEN THE SUNFIRE THAT WOULD MAKE MY BETT EVEN BETTER FOR THE CAMARO.
  4. A lot of it also has to do with the gearing. If the camaro is running low gears such as 4.11s, the take if will be quick, good for quarter mile, but it will lose out on a long run. However, if the camaro is running a shorter gear, such as 3.08s, it will lag off the line, and run slower in the quarter mile. I'm not sure on the gearing of the sunfire, and it is different between automatics and the standards.
  5. You should get a better launch as you have RWD whereas the Sunfire is FWD. The weight shifts rearward when you accelerate so the Sunfire will waste a bit of time spinning its tires (unless the driver knows what he/she is doing). That said, my bet is still on the Sunfire. The best bet is to look at the Power-to Weight ratio. An average 2005 Sunfire weighs about 2700 pounds and as you mentioned this one has 168hp (140hp with full exhaust) giving it a ratio of 16.07 lbs per hp. Your throttle body injected Camaro makes about 170hp and 255 lb-ft of torque (the Tuned port Injected Camaros makes 195hp-230hp). It weighs about 3500 lbs giving it a power to weight ratio of 20.58 lbs per hp. If you had the TPI 305 engine or if he was running the stock exhaust I'd say the Camaro would win. But as it stands I'll put $20 on the Sunfire.
  6. I KNOW, the 95 Honda civic with the B18c5 will win. The Camaro and Sunfire are american cars, the engines will blow when you both try to catch up with the civic. Wait i'm giving you guys too much credit. They will blow before they get to the finish line.
  7. I've had both camaros, and sunfires. I'm leaning on the camaro if you know how to race it... Course it could be close with the sunfire being lighter... Wishing you luck buddy, take care.
  8. I love camaros and i know a good bit about them but he will eat you up. off the line and on top end. he is just to light and has more hp than your 'maro already.
  9. the camaro like a mo fo smoke his ass for me whoooooo get him oh yea shift by your sealf do not spin the tires give it about 3/4 gas and then just smash it
