Anyone know how to replace clutch in ford truck?

My husband has a 1998 Ford Ranger and just put a clutch kit in it. When we put the transmission back in it would not go into nuetral it was stuck in second gear. We slid it back and it still won't switch gears. Any ideas?

1. Make sure the tranny is in neutral before hooking up the shifter, :)
2. I am thinking this is a top loaded transmission...as the shifter goes into the top of the transmission. pull the shifter back out...take a screw driver and center the shifting linkage in the hole where the shifter goes...line all the nothches up. replace the shifter and it should work fine.
