What modifications can increase car insurance?
Hi, Can just cosmetically changing the car increase car insurance for instance- alloy wheels and a minor body kit? I understand that performance modifications can for example- exhaust, sports air filters etc. Can anyone help me here? Query.

- it can yes, thebetter the car looks the more risk some one will take it, so it does bump up the price a bit regards x kitti x
- i know alloys wheels will increase premiums because of the cost of them , i dont knoe about body styling though. best thing to do is to ring your insurance and find out exactly what. it would be very unfortunate if you didnt mention something to them and then something happen to your car and you find your not covered at all
- any modification will increase insurance if you tell them, the only thing that you may have trouble with is if you fit an engine that doesn belong to that model of car {ie putting a v8 in an old mini} you need an engineers certificate and only some insurers will insure the car. you are better of buying a car that already looks good as standard and has alloys as standard that way it isnt a modification and there is no premium to pay
- depends what insurance company u are with. i have 17' alloys on my car and it didnt make a difference. my friend however had to pay more so took his alloys off. i think your sex can affect it aswell.
- Hi I have been through this a few times now but the rule is Anything that the manufactures supply that can be fitted to your can is not a modification its classed as an extra option Anything that is not standard to the car is classed as modification and could affect your insurance . If you have "non standard " parts on your car that you have not told the insurance about they can refuse to pay any claim you might have on your insurance . being a vehicle inspector i have been asked many times to make independent reports on this kind of thing for the insurance company's to get out of paying claims Hope this helps
