Is it stupid to buy a Mazda 3?
I really love the Mazda 3 - good looking, fun to drive (I want to get the 2.3 litre one with a sports body kit, called the SP23 in Australia). But - and here's the but. It seems to be accepted wisdom that a new model - not just a facelift, a new model - will be out next year. Which means my car will look "old" when the new model comes out. Do you think it's stupid to buy a Mazda 3 when a new will be out next year? I really need a new car. My current one (which is very old) is on death's door

- No, it isn't. Buying the first year of a new generation of a car almost invariably has the most problems. Later revisions fix those problems. Mazda in particular has a history (not a consistent one, but still a history) of fucking up new models and fixing them by the end (or usually, middle) of the generation. You can either buy the BEST of the current generation, or wait and buy the WORST of the next one.
- You are absolutely right. Your car will look old when the new model comes out. Wait for the new one, seriously. edit: Since when Mazda cars have any major problems or bugs? We are talking about Mazda here, not some obscure China made vehicle. Even there is, your local Mazda agency will fix the problems for you. They wouldn't want their reputation to suffer. It's a Mazda for goodness sake.
- buy it. they are a great car with decent mileage and great driveability. i would however recommend getting it with the standard transmission. have fun with your new car
- I would recommend buying it for 2 reasons. 1. Being at the end of a model cycle all the bugs will be worked out. Nothing ever comes out perfectly the 1st time. 2. The old one will have discounts so they can get rid of them before the new ones come out. Ace - If you wrecked any clutch in 14k miles its because you cant drive.
- It's not stupid to buy a Mazda, just don't make a mistake like me and buy the Manual one. It's in the shop now getting its second clutch. My cars at 14,000 miles its practically brand new. As for waiting for the new one...do some searches on google and see what the talk is about the new Mazda3's. If you like the new "model" wait for it and don't rush. Hope that helps! -Ace
- Nope. It will come out in 2010, not next year. The new Mazda 6 is coming out next year.
- If your car is at "death's door," then don't wait for the new one, but if can still cope with your old car, then just wait.
